how to find the artistry by kelsea studio

hi! we cant wait to meet you :) below you will find the driving directions and and steps to help you find my studio!

how to find my studio

follow the driving instructions until you see Art and Frame of Falls Church on the first floor.
you may park at any available parking spot right outside the building. parking is free and there are there are 2 available entrances.

art and frame entrance

you may enter through the front door to Art and Frame. you will go in past the front desk and to the stairs on the left.
there are 2 small flights of carpeted steps.
one you get upstairs take a right and a second right and my door is at the end of the hall.

side entrance

head to the double doors on the side of the building, passing art and frame.
enter through the middle glass door and head straight up the stairs on your left.
once up the stairs take an immediate left and a second left and my door is at the end of the hall.

a few important notes:

unfortunately the building is an older office building and does not have an elevator. if stairs are a barrier

for you please let me know so we can come up with an accommodation.

if your appointment is before 11 am or after 6 pm, the outside door might be locked for safety.

why should you have a wedding hair and makeup trial?

It all comes down to your comfortability.

there is a sense of security going into your wedding day knowing how you will look when you get out of my chair. wedding trials are for us to try looks based on your likes, dislikes, and the style you are looking to achieve. I translate all of that into a look that will stay all day and look great in photos. If you don't get glammed up often I would 100% recommend a trial so you can start to see yourself as a bride.

I want you to look back on your wedding photos with confidence that you look and felt beautiful.

all over social media you will find all kinds of trends such as the curly girl method, heatless curls or the bowl method.

you don't have to follow every new trend, nor do you have to spend all day adding in a million products.

now it's time to start planning your wedding

you now have a million decisions ahead of you. the first things to secure will be your wedding venue(s) , both wedding parties , a photographer and/or videographer , and possibly a wedding planner . food and the guest list would be next!

once the big things are done and chosen you start getting into the details. how do you want to look?

what do you feel most comfortable in? what about a veil? jewelry? shoes?

how do you want to look in photos for years to come?

do you know how to execute long wear, photo ready , hair and/ or makeup styling?

your wedding day is not the day to try new things. your wedding is the day to relax and be pampered.

hiring a professional hair and makeup minimizes the stress of the morning .

you will receive a detailed schedule to ensure the day goes smoothly.

having a hair and makeup trial will also help you feel more confident and prepared

should you have a trial?

the answer to this question depends on a few things...

are you sure of the look you want, and can you describe it well? do you have photo examples of the looks you want?

If you don't wear makeup often or really know what you do or don't like, I 100% recommend a trial. in my experience it is best to schedule trials 2-3 months before your wedding date. I know that sounds late, but you need most of your big things out of the way such as your dress, photographer, recent hair cut/color and accessories etc...

finding an artist that represents your style is key.

at artistry by kelsea we specialize in enhancing your natural beauty and ensure that you look flawless in every photo.

your artist should have the expertise to create a look that compliments your outfit, decor, personal style, and

lasts all day and night. in your search you should check out artists websites, portfolios and social medias.

ask for recommendations from friends and read online reviews for more information. narrow down

your choices to a few artists who seem like a good fit and schedule calls.

the great artists book 6 to 12 to even 24 months out. be prepared to lock in your artist sooner rather than later.

once you have a it narrowed down to a few, schedule virtual consultations. in a post-covid world most artists have the option to book a call online. if you don't see the option just sending the artist an email with the request should work!

this is your opportunity to ask questions, discuss your desired look, and assess your compatibility.

you want someone who not only has the technical skills but also someone you can feel comfortable with.

I have listed out a few things you want to have prepared to share...

your wedding date and potential ceremony time

photos of your outfit and/ or wedding party outfits

are you wearing a veil or hair jewelry?

are you going to gift the services to your wedding party or will they be paying for their services?

how to prep for your hair or makeup session!

think of this as your personal "cheat sheet" so you can show up ready to relax while I handle the rest!

skin prep

please arrive with clean, moisturized skin. In the days leading up to your appointment, give your skin a little extra attention and prioritize hydration, even for oily skin.If you struggle with dryness or flakiness, I recommend a gentle exfoliation the night before. It allows the makeup to lie smoothly, blend more easily, and last way past the after-party.

do you have sensitive skin? please let me know about any preferences, allergies, or sensitivities at the beginning of our appointment so I can choose the best products for you. this includes food and skin allergies or sensitivities. drink plenty of water to help keep your skin hydrated. this is especially important if you are traveling. changes in climate or a long plane ride can change our skin with little to no warning.

hair prep

In my experience, hair holds best when it’s healthy and just a little lived-in.

freshly washed hair can be too slippery for certain styles, and if it’s too oily, it can weigh the hair down.

your hair texture will help determine the best time frame for you to wash.

after washing, avoid any products with hold, like hairspray, mousses, or gels that might weigh the hair down.

during our consultation, we will discuss if you need to do additional prep, like bringing extensions or doing a twist out.

for straight and wavy hair

It is best to wash your hair the night before your appointment, not the morning of. please do not arrive with wet hair.

after washing, use only a lightweight detangler, heat protectant, or leave-in spray.

for curly and coily hair

Ideally, I reccomend for people with curls to line up their wash day so your appointment lands on "day 2" curls.

I know this isn't always possible, but keeping your curls hydrated and detangled goes a long way.

the look

If you have a specific look in mind, please bring along inspiration photos or a Pinterest board!

It helps me see what you love (and what you don’t), so I can translate that vision

to your unique features. don’t be intimidated by all the content that's out there. we will have a

full consultation when you arrive so that we’re on the same page.

It’s also totally okay if you aren’t sure what you’re looking for or if you don't know the "right" terminology.

I will use my expertise in selecting the best shades for your skintone, lash for your eye shape, style for your hair type, and more.

what to wear?

I want you to be comfortable and able to relax before a day of busy events, tight dresses, and uncomfortable shoes.

I recommend skipping the tight tops, bras, or shapewear while you're in the chair.

skipping the tight straps or restrictive shapewear also prevents those pesky "indentation lines" on your skin,

especially if you're wearing a strapless or low-back dress.

Ideally, I would wear a loose or stretchy top that doesn’t have to be pulled over your head when you change.

A button-down shirt, a zip-up pullover, or a very stretchy tank usually works the best.

wedding trials

I also want you to be comfortable, and everything above is true. however, if we’re doing a wedding trial,

I recommend dressing up a bit. It’s so much easier to visualize the whole look together

when you aren't in your favorite casual jeans. the glam will say I'm ready for my close-up

and the outfit says I'm ready to work out!

Ideally, a top or dress in a similar color or neckline to your gown would really give you the best idea.

sometimes we can even arrange for the trial to be on a day you're going for a fitting, bridal shower, or date night.

last but not least, come ready to relax, I’ve got you completely covered.there will be no sad curls, running mascara,

or styles falling flat on my watch. you can breathe easy knowing your look is built to last.
